Caterpillar Set to Make Cuts Permanent

WSIL-TV- Peoria-based Caterpillar says about 2,500 laid-off employees will be cut permanently.

The world's largest construction equipment company has struggled with lower demand for more than a year now.

Caterpillar responded by cutting 16 % of its workforce that now stands at 94,000.

The company says it *will* bring back about 500 other workers by the end of next year.
