Class Act: A Perfect Score

Play Video
JACKSON COUNTY- Its a test that stresses out many high schoolers hoping to go to college.
ACT scores help determine students' chances of getting accepted and getting scholarships.

A Carbondale student who scored high marks on her ACT could open up big doors.

Meet Ankai Xu a senior from Carbondale High School, she's well rounded.

She's on the varsity Tennis team and can play the piano,""I did miss a couple of questions, but that still gave me the 36 overall" says Xu.

The moment Ankai found out about her perfect score. She says it took her breathe away,"There was a moment of Oh my Goodness, wow".

Preparation is key in scoring so high on the ACT. Several months worth of practice tests and a few ACT review courses paid off,"The preparation helps you know what to expect on the test day, what the format is, types of questions they ask, and just knowing that it plays a big part in doing well" says Xu.

She also says, ""you can't just study, study, study, all the time. Its good to take your mind off things".

That's where the tennis
and piano come in and with all of her talents..and test scores
Ankai hopes she's well rounded enough to get into her choice of schools. She's looking at a few state schools as well as the Ivy League. She wants to major in Chemical Engineering.

Carbondale Principal Stephen Murphy has all the faith in Ankai, "Very well rounded, happy, and obviously highly intelligent. The sky is the limit with Ankai, she can do whatever she wants to do, whatever she sets her mind too. She's a great kid".

and she's just one of 47 students in the state to get a perfect score...a 36... On the ACT.
