Murder Victim's Body Exhumed

Play Video
JEFFERSON COUNTY- Investigators have exhumed the body of a Jefferson County shooting victim.

They hope the body of Jimmie Davis will reveal more evidence for prosecuting his killer.

Davis' body was exhumed today under court order -less than a month after he was laid to rest.

Jimmie Davis was shot and killed in Mt. Vernon in early October.

But now investigators believe his body may have even more clues to pass along.

Crews worked in the mud today to exhume the body from Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Woodlawn.
While officials could not discuss specific reasons for the exhuming Davis' body--
Filed court petitions explain the reasoning.
They show that during the initial autopsy -- a full body X-ray requested by detectives was never done.

After further review of evidence investigators believe Davis had an undiscovered gun shot wound.

State's Attorney Jeff Bradley explains why that's important to the case, " It's simply a matter of following the evidence and where ever the evidence leads us to then we'll act accordingly".

The shooting took place in the 1000 block of South 6th Street in Mt. Vernon.

Investigators say Robert Lash, also-known-as "Big Pun" shot Davis from a vehicle.

Lash remains in jail on 1-million dollars bond.
