JACKSON COUNTY- Illinois child advocates say their projections show the state budget deficit will increase to nearly 13 billion dollars next year.

The new President of "Voices of Illinois Children" spoke at SIU Monday.

Kathy Ryg says the state's budget mess hits children and families the hardest.

Ryg says without new forms of revenue state programs could see even bigger cuts in the next fiscal year," "12.8 billion dollars means out of the general revenue fund the Illinois School Board of Education...Department of Human Services, DCFS an Department of Public health total equals 12.8 billion."

"Voices" pledges to work with lawmakers to keep vital programs for Illinois kids running next year.
