Statewide Internet Safety Contest

Play Video
SPRINGFIELD- State leaders are reminding students and parents about internet safety.

They're doing it thru a new statewide contest announced at a school in Springfield Tuesday.

Students will design posters or electronic media displays about online dangers and how to stay safe.

A new study finds nearly 40 % of kids have given out personal information to a stranger online.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan says because kids are so computer savvy and spend so much time online getting the word out is more important than ever, "We also need to recognize with the positives come a whole series of unfortunate negatives...We're trying to educate you and protect you".

Winners of the cyber safety contest will be announced in May.
