THOMPSONVILLE-Dana Riddle is in for a fight. But she's not doing it alone. This Thompsonville school teacher's aide was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006.
Dana says when she first noticed the lump on her breast she thought it might be a non cancerous cyst. Eventually, she had her doctor to a breast exam, and he told her not to worry. Several months later, the lump had grown.
"The skin started changing and I knew something was not right."
She went through chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation. Dana says she went nearly two and a half years without problems.
Then about a month ago,
"They found several spots on my bones of where it had spread some more. I'm going through chemotherapy again."
Besides wearing their support for Dana students are also giving her a hand. This wall in the school will soon be filled with messages of hope from each student here. Dana was emotional thinking of all the friends and family members who have been by her side through her battle. Supporters plan two fundraisers this month.
The first is Saturday starting at 4:30 p.m. at Thompsonville School. Then on Tuesday the Benton Applebee's is hosting an event. The restaurant is donating 15% of the profit from meals sold between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.
"There are so many people supporting me in so many different ways. Especially those helping with the benefit. Words can not express the appreciation and love I have for them."
