SIU Chancellor Finalist Holds Public Forum

Play Video
JACKSON COUNTY - The first of two candidates for the chancellor job at Southern Illinois University was in town to meet with students and faculty.

Rita Cheng is provost and vice chancellor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

The Wisconsin native has a background in academic accounting research and she describes herself as a "farm kid." Cheng took part in a public forum on campus.

While at Wisconsin-Milwaukee Cheng says she's been responsible for research growth, new academic programs, and enrollment increases.

Cheng says she can effectively carry out
SIU's mission, "I think most importantly it is a question of our messaging, our branding and making sure that we're all very comfortable inside and outside with who SIU is, and that when someone asks, we know and we say it again over and over and over."

Fellow finalist Barbara Couture will visit the campus Monday.
