TERRE HAUTE, IN — The SIU Salukis put together a fantastic effort at both ends of the floor to dominate Indiana State 79-57 Saturday.
This is the Dawgs’ first MVC win by more than 20 points since January of 2006.
Kavion Pippen and Sean Lloyd led SIU with 21 points apiece, and Armon Fletcher added 20 to pace the Salute offensive attack. SIU shot 55% from the field, including 8-14 from three-point range. The Salukis were 15-16 from the free throw line as well.
Defensively, SIU held Indiana State’s top two scorers, Tyreke Key and Jordan Barnes, to a total of 19 points on 7-23 shooting. Key is the MVC’s leading scorer at 17 points per game. He managed only eight Saturday. The duo, whom Salute head coach Barry Hinson refers to as "Batman and Robin", combined for 45 points in the first meeting last month in Carbondale.
SIU is now 14-13, 7-7 in the MVC. The Salukis will travel to Valparaiso Wednesday.
