Mark Kiesling 2

Mark is senior anchor at WSIL, co-anchoring the weekday evening newscasts at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 10 p.m.

He is now in his 32nd year of being on-air at WSIL.  Mark first came to WSIL in November of 1981 while still in college.  He worked a variety of jobs including studio camera, master control operator, news graphics, promotions editor, and commercial voice-overs.

In January of 1983, Mark debuted as the weekend sports anchor and one-man-band reporter.  Four months later, he took over as weekday sports anchor. Mark covered southern Illinois sports as WSIL Sports Director for nearly 17 years. During that time, the Southern Illinois Coaches Association presented him with the Merle Jones Award for outstanding journalism.

Mark left WSIL in September of 1999 to serve as a staff member for Southern Illinois Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Nearly three years later, he returned to WSIL and has again worn many hats. Besides anchoring the evening news, his duties have included news promotions, director of web operations, and special projects.

Although he was born in Kirkwood, Missouri, Mark’s roots are firmly planted in southern Illinois. He attended Carterville Junior High and High School and John A. Logan College. After the death of his wife, Debbie, in June of 2018, Mark is learning a new role, as a single dad, raising three teenage daughters.
