Mt. Vernon Police investigating bank robbery

MT. VERNON (WSIL) — Police are investigating a bank robbery in Mt. Vernon.

It happened just before 10 a.m. Monday at Peoples National Bank on Main Street on the east side of town. 

Mt. Vernon Police say a man entered the bank, implied he had a weapon, and demanded money. Police say the suspect is believed to be in his teens or early 20’s, approximately 5’4" with a thin build, wearing a black hoodie, black pants, and bright blue shoes. 

The suspect was last seen walking north on 6th Street away from the bank. 

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the search for the suspect. Authorities checked vacant homes in the area as part of their investigation.
