MARION (WSIL)– It’s known as one of the premiere micro-sprint race weekends in the country, as more than a hundred drivers gear up to take the track this weekend for the Terry Sprague Memorial at the Southern Illinois Raceway.
The Terry Sprague Memorial has the third highest payout in micro-sprint racing each year.
This marks the twelfth running of the Terry Sprague Memorial, honoring a local race enthusiast that died after a battle with cancer in 2007.
"Terry as an individual was a very kind-hearted person, took care of people that needed help. when he passed away in ’07, the track took it on themselves to carry his name on. We also make a donation with Terry’s family to the charity of their choice in town. It goes to the soup kitchen this year. So in the spirit of Terry, we always take that money back and give it back into the community as well," said Southern Illinois Raceway owner Jake Palmisano.
Hot Laps for the races begin Saturday at 6:00pm, with the races following shortly after.
Grandstand tickets are $12 for adults 13 and older, and $5 for children.
