BENTON — A young ATV racer from Southern Illinois is a national champion.
11-year old Landon Corn was the cream of the 70 CC open class crop in the ATV Motocross Nationals. The series consisted of eight races in Texas, Indiana, South Carolina, Tennessee, New York, Michigan, and here in Illinois. The Benton sixth grader raced in multiple classes, winning ten titles.
"Well, we started off the season, it was OK, I guess," said Landon Corn. "We got the first win in most of our classes. The first few rounds weren’t the best. It was a mudfest. The last rounds–they were pretty good."
Landon’s dad, Jerod, built the ATV from the ground up. Not only has Jerod built a fast ride, but he coaches Landon on the best paths around the track.
"Listening–if I tell him he can do something, he does it," Jerod said. "He’s really good in trusting me. I’ve been there. I know what to look for."
Landon and his family will be headed to West Virginia in late November for the end of the season banquet.
