CHICAGO (WSIL) — The defense for the Chicago mother and daughter accused of cutting a woman’s baby from her womb last April will request a gag order next week.
Clarisa and Desiree Figueroa pleaded not guilty in August of the death of Marlen Ochoa-Lopez, 19, before removing her baby boy and claiming him as their own. Investigators say Clarisa Figueroa told Ochoa-Lopez they had free baby clothes and supplies for her at their home with the intent of killing her on April 23.
Ochoa-Lopez’ baby, Yovanny, died after nearly two months of intensive care at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. The hospital was cleared of wrong-doing after a Lopez family attorney said the hospital should have called police when Clarisa Figueroa showed no signs of giving birth when she brought the baby in for treatment. The hospital also added Clarisa as Yovanny’s mother on the birth certificate.
Piotr Bobak, the boyfriend of Clarisa Figueroa, was charged with concealing a homicidal death.
