Crash on Interstate 57 near Benton

UPDATE: September 18, 2019 5:03 p.m.

BENTON (WSIL) — Illinois State Police say three people were injured in the crash Wednesday morning.

It happened just before 11:30 a.m. near Exit 71. Trooper Bridget Rice says a silver Hyundai utility vehicle lost control and left the roadway.

All three people inside the vehicle were ejected and sustained serious injuries. One was taken to a local hospital. Two others were flown to regional hospitals.

Names of those injured have not been released.

BENTON (WSIL) — All lanes of traffic have reopened.

BENTON (WSIL) — The northbound passing lane has reopened to traffic. One lane is still closed.

BENTON (WSIL) — Interstate 57 northbound is shut down at Exit 71 due to a crash.

Franklin County Emergency Management Agency reports the crash is on the Benton exit off ramp.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes of travel.
