CARTERVILLE (WSIL) — The weather in week 1 wasn’t too kind to the Herrin Tigers in their road game against Waterloo.
The Tigers sat through a two and a half hour rain delay only to play in two inches of rain in a 36 – 14 loss.
Meanwhile, the Carterville Lions have yet to find the endzone or the field goal post after they were shutout by the Benton Rangers 42 – 0.
Both teams met in Carterville Friday night hungry for their first win of the season.
Herrin was down until the 3rd when Chance Karnes ran 36 yards for a touchdown. The kick was good, making it 21 – 17.
Carterville retook the lead in the 4th after an Elijah Downen pass to Brice Anderson led to a touchdown. Carterville was up 24 – 21 with less than two minutes in the game.
Herrin, moving it down the field, finds the endzone with just seconds left on the clock. Herrin wins 28 – 24.
