Football Salukis look to keep momentum going with home-opener

CARBONDALE (WSIL) — The football Salukis are busy preparing for Saturday’s home opener, hoping to build on their recent road win over the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

A big part of that 45-20 win was the play of running back Javon Williams, who was named the Missouri Valley Conference offensive player of the week.

The freshman from Centralia touched the ball only 9 times in the game, but totaled 171 yards and three touchdowns.

Coach Hill says Williams had dedicated himself to learning multiple positions, "He plays running back, and does a really good job of just handing him the football, and he’s done some things out of the quarterback position, the quarterback run game, you saw him catch the football, he probably has some of the best hands on our team, so just a natural play-maker."

The Salukis will be looking to make plays again Saturday, when they host The University of Tennessee at Martin.

The Salukis and Skyhawks kick it off at 6:00 Saturday night at Saluki Stadium.
