MURPHYSBORO (WSIL) — Murphysboro teachers will return to the classroom Thursday morning.
The Murphysboro Education Association voted to ratify a tentative contract agreement with the District 186 Board of Education on Wednesday night, ending a teachers strike that began nearly one week ago.
"We are ecstatic to know we will be back in our classrooms with our students tomorrow," said Catlin Langellier, Chief Negotiator for the MEA. "Our students will always be our first priority. We are pleased we’ve finally reached a tentative agreement that puts our students first."
Langellier added in a news release that details of the agreement will not be made public until the school board votes on the proposal Tuesday night.
She also thanked District 186 support staff and the Murphysboro community for their support during the five-day strike.
"We could not have done this without you," Langellier said. "We look forward seeing you all tomorrow.”
