CHARLESTON (WSIL) — The Southern Illinois Salukis women’s soccer team tied the Eastern Illinois University Panthers in a 0-0 double-overtime draw on Thursday afternoon.
Freshman Dariana Mihalache recorded one save in the first half to help keep the Panthers out of the net before heading into the break tied at 0-0.
The Salukis dominated the second half offensively by owning a 9-5 shot advantage over the Panthers but were unable to find the back of the net before regulation ended.
The first overtime period saw the Panthers strike first with a shot by Niondina Nystrom that went wide right. Madison Bennion fired off the Salukis lone shot of the first overtime, a shot on goal that was saved by EIU’s Teteak.
Both teams fired off two shots in the match’s second overtime but failed to generate any scoring opportunities before time expired.
The Salukis will return home to welcome in the SIUE Cougars on Friday, October 18. Friday’s match will mark the program’s first Senior Night as seniors Andrea Rodriguez and Ashley Moore are recognized for their contributions to Saluki soccer in its inaugural season.
