CARBONDALE (WSIL) — Meet Emma and Lindsey. Both are red shirt juniors, both are middle blockers, and both were unsure if they would even be friends when they first met.
"I was kinda nervous at first. I was like, ‘Ehhh, I don’t know about this girl. She’s a little different.’ I heard she was from a really small town, and I’m a Chicago girl, so it’s interesting. I really didn’t think we were gonna jive."
But it didn’t take long for the two to become inseparable.
"She started doing some really weird things that I would always do and I was like, ‘Woah, very similar,’ and I found she would always laugh at the things that I did, and I found her funny too and we’re tall blondes, you know"
Outside of volleyball, their families even get together.
"Her family is my family, and my family is her family. Who would have thought?"
The duo says their friendship has helped elevate their game on the court
"I think it’s helped a lot, especially if one of us is having a bad game, you know, we always know how to pick each other up. For instance, I know she’s having a bad game, I’ll just make her laugh as hard as she can, and it usually works or usually say something mean to me"
