Nashville high school football heads to the semi finals

NASHVILLE (WSIL)- In the Class 2-A high school quarterfinals, the Nashville hornets took on the number one seed Pana panthers.

In the first quarter Pana’s quarterback Jonah Lauff threw a 42 yard touchdown pass to Jacob Klein. The kick was no good and Pana was up 13-7.

In the second quarter Nashville was on the 33. Junior quarterback Cole Malawy found Nick Miller, who just barely got into the end zone for the touchdown. The hornets took the lead ending the half up 21-13.

In the final quarter Nick Miller ran 30 yards and was knocked out right before the end zone. On the next play, senior running back Julian Metcalf was able to punch it in for the touchdown.

The hornets defense also made some big plays. Justin Aulds got the quarterback sack and fumble. Galvin Baldwin scooped up the ball and took it to the end zone. Nashville took Pana 42-19.

Head Coach Stephen Kozuszek credited his team for their effort throughout the whole game.

"I thought part of the game was they wore down a little bit towards the end and their pass protection didn’t hold up as much in the second half," said Kozuszek. "Our D-line was able to get some pressure on him and force some of those throws and get some sacks on him."

Nashville will travel to Decatur St. Teresa for the semi-finals. That game will kick off at 1p.m.
