PERRY CO. (WSIL) -- Perry County Sheriff Steve Bareis is reminding residents to remove valuables and lock their vehicles after a string of burglaries that struck very close to home.
"It was unlocked, so I didn't have to suffer any damage to get in, but all of my personal items, all of my papers, all of my gear, were everywhere."
While Sheriff Bareis was patrolling the county early Wednesday morning, someone was breaking into his personal vehicle at home.
Two other vehicles near his home were also hit.
"Appears they were looking for money, jewelry, and those kind of things."
Bareis is encouraging residents to lock their doors and to report anything they consider suspicious or out of the ordinary.
The break-ins are still under investigation.
