MARION (WSIL) -- A local Gold's Gym member is being recognized for his hard work and inspiration to others.
Gold's Gym holds a world wide competition each year, with more than 700 gyms competing.
This year, Terry Burns was nominated in the Most Inspirational Member category. He placed second and received a plaque and trophy Monday.
Burns is 65-years-old and underwent a heart transplant a year and a half ago. He suffered from congestive heart failure for several years, leading up to the transplant.
Burns started working out at the gym in 2015 and continued his workouts until his transplant.
He was so motivated, Burns started working out again, just two months after his surgery.
"He inspires so many people in here," said Gold's Gym owner Shane Smith. "He comes in here and works hard everyday. I remember one of the things he always said to me, 'I got this second heart. I'm going to make sure that I make this individual proud, go and do the best I can with it.' So he's in here working hard, hard, hard everyday," Smith continued.
"My friends here, they pat me on the back, and I hope I inspire them. They inspire me, and that's what it's all about," Burns said.
Now, Burns continues his workout routine four days a week.
