GOLCONDA (WSIL) -- Pope County senior Jackson Eddington is our newest Banterra Player of the Week winner. Eddington won with 43 percent of the votes.

The senior guard averaged 27.5 points in two wins last week.

Pirates coach Jim Simmons called WSIL Sunday to nominate Eddington, showing a strong bond between player and coach.

"When you have a coach that believes in you, it allows you to do more and I meaning averaging 27, for me, that's a lot of points because I never averaged than even over a two game span and so him believing in me and doing that just feels good," Eddington said.

"Any time you can coach a kid that is really competitive, you have a chance to win. I feel like he is very competitive and he makes the other kids competitive. It's not just the points when you look at the scorebook. It's other things you do, pushing everybody, making everybody else better. He averaged five assists a game last week and he just does a tremendous job on the floor," Simmons said.
