CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- The Shawnee National Forest and SIU Museum will host a special photo exhibit in Carbondale.
In celebration of the Forest’s 80th Anniversary the exhibit features historic photos taken in the 1930s and 1940s during the popular Ozark Tours.
On opening night, there will be a reception and program that includes the re-release of "The Land Changes," a film produced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service.
Several presentations are scheduled throughout the weeks highlighting southern Illinois’ cultural and natural resources.
Program coordinator Mary McCorvie says she wanted to make the exhibit as informative as possible.
"The significant part is to make sure people are aware that the forest has not always looked like the way that it does" she said.
The exhibition will run from January 17 through February 21. Admission is free.
