First person-to-person coronavirus transmission reported in Illinois

CHICAGO (WSIL) -- The first person-to-person spread of novel coronavirus has been reported in Chicago.

The case is the spouse of the first Illinois confirmed case. These two people were in close contact for an extended period of time. The second case did not travel to China.

Both people with the virus are hospitalized and in stable condition.

Currently the disease is not spreading in the general population, meaning the immediate risk to the public is low.

Currently 21 people are under investigation in Illinois and healthcare workers in close proximity are being monitored.

This bring the total number of people confirmed with the virus in the U.S. to 6.
