MARION (WSIL) -- The City of Marion is working to reduce accidents at the intersection of 17th Street and Williamson County Parkway.
A study found crashes involving cars making left turns are the most common accidents at the intersection.
The city plans to align the left turning lanes, remove the pedestal traffic lights and add another right turning lane.
Economic Developer Glenn Clarida says this will improve safety and give drivers a better view of traffic.
"It's important to eliminate 78 accidents we've had over five years. That's the most important thing," he said.
Once the proposal has been approved, the city will seek bids for the project.
It plans to start construction as soon as this fall.
