PERRY COUNTY (WSIL) -- A Perry County correctional officer is being praised for his actions in the line of duty.
Officer Richard Emling was presented with the 2019 Correctional Officer of the Year award from the Illinois Sheriff's Association.
Officials say on August 19, 2019, Emling saved the life of an inmate who was found unresponsive at the Perry County Jail. Emling performed CPR and made a tourniquet to stop bleeding on that inmate until he could get to the hospital.
Perry County Sheriff Steve Bareis presented the award to Officer Emling on Thursday, February 13, 2020.
