MURPHYSBORO (WSIL) -- Two local businesses are giving back to frontline workers.

Employees at the Kroger in Murphysboro received a free lunch Wednesday from Martel's.

State Farm agent Chris Mueller and Martel's Pizza owner Dillon Rushing put their resources together to thank a part of the community they say is under-recognized for their contributions during COVID-19.

"These employees, I've seen them working overtime on days off. So this is definitely something that, where we want to recognize what they've done," says Mueller.

"They're the reason we're in business. Most of the employees here at Kroger, I know personally as employees of Martel's Pizza. So, it's just a way for us to give back and say thanks for all the work during this pandemic," says Rushing.

They provided ten pizzas for the day crew and plan to return with more for the evening shift.

The two businesses will be teaming up again to feed employees at the Kroger in Carbondale on Friday.
