MURPHYSBORO (WSIL) -- Meet Foxy, a 5 year old fox hound mix having a hard time finding her 'Furever Home'.
"She came to us from another rescue with puppies. She had her puppies and they all got adopted but she was heartworm positive so she had to be treated," explains Jessica Piquard, Assistant Executive Director at St. Francis CARE.
After her treatment Piquard says she had trouble finding the right home. "We thought we had the good home with this last adoption and they had her about a year. A Jackson County Animal Control Officer had called us. He said he had done a welfare check and found her skin and bones in a tiny cage in the backyard."
Foxy was later returned to St. Francis CARE with sores and severely underweight.
"We started feeding her small meals every few hours, she gained seven pounds the first week she was here and she just keeps gaining," says Piquard.
Piquard says Foxy came back positive with heartworms again and will have to undergo another treatment before being adopted. "We put her in the office sometimes with us, in the afternoons and she just lays on the dog bed up there or puts her paws up on the counter and tries to help us. She's a good girl."
Foxy loves to cuddle and Piquard says she's very easy going. "I think she'd be good for anybody. I think that she'd get along with absolutely anyone. I think she'd get along with children. I think she'd be good with an elderly couple. I think that she would pretty much fit in anywhere. She's a very sweet girl. She's not a lap dog but she wants to be."
