3 hospitalized, driver flees scene after crash sends semi into multiple buildings

BENTON (WSIL) -- Three people ended up in the hospital after a crash involving a van and tractor trailer.

According to the Illinois State Police, Joshua Simms, 36, of Christopher, was driving a Dodge minivan northbound on McLeansboro Street when he failed to stop at a stop sign and hit a westbound tractor trailer on Illinois Route 14.

The collision sent the tractor trailer off the roadway.

According to a press release, that semi "struck two buildings, two pedestrians, two parked vehicles and a trailer."

Both of those pedestrians were taken to the hospital. One has not been identified. The other man is Larry Lampley, 60, of Whittington

Troopers say Simms took off running from the scene and was later caught by Franklin County Sheriff's Deputies. Simms then ended up in the hospital.

No other details are being released at this time.

BENTON (WSIL) -- Illinois State Police are investigating a traffic crash that sent a semi into a building in Benton.

It happened around 11 a.m. Friday at Route 14 (Bailey Lane) and McLeansboro Street. A semi and a minivan were involved.

The semi struck a building owned by a medical supply company.

Investigators say one person was hurt.

Traffic along Route 14 was diverted around the scene.
