I-24 reopens after truck crash, fire

traffic crash

UPDATED 9:50 p.m. TUESDAY, JULY 14, 2020

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says all lanes of Interstate 24 are now open.

Crews are now working to clear secondary crashes along the detour route.

KYTC says there are at least four crashes along KY 139 between I-24 Exit 56 and Cadiz, Ky. where trucks are in the ditch or disabled due to a jackknife or a crash.

TRIGG CO., Ky. (WSIL) -- A box truck fire has blocked all lanes of Interstate 24 near mile marker 62 in Trigg County.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) says the truck hit the centerline barrier wall and ripped open a fuel tank before striking a crash barrier and catching fire.

Because of the damage to the barrier wall and "substantial debris," KYTC estimates the interstate will be closed eight hours, or until approximately midnight.

Traffic is being detoured between I-24 Cadiz Exit 65 and Cadiz-Princeton Exit 56 via US 68 and KY 139 through Cadiz.

KYTC says drivers may also consider a detour between I-24 Exit 24 at Calvert City and Exit 65 at Cadiz via I-69 and U.S. 68 to avoid the traffic back up.
