HERRIN (WSIL) -- American Legion Post 645 installed a 168 square foot mural Sunday afternoon, in honor of the sacrifices and contributions made by veterans.
The mural consist of seven different panels, each depicting a theater of war where veterans have served, starting with WWI and through to Afghanistan.
Lead artist Kris Killman joined members of Post 645 in Sunday's installation and says it was a real honor to be a part of the project.
"These wars are not fought lightly and I have a soft spot for veterans, people who protect our freedoms and our liberties, I appreciate it, we all appreciate it," said Killman. "I hope that folks would see, that this is a community and civic improvement project and thank our veterans."
Painters from the Little Egypt Arts Association in Marion helped Killman with the mural.
Herrin is now just one mural away from qualifying for official Mural-Tour signage from the state of Illinois, to be posted on I-57.
Sunday's installation makes six murals for the city of Herrin, with a future mural expected to take place with Chuck's BBQ in the near future.
