MARION, Ill (WSIL) -- You will soon have a chance to experience a trip to a drive-in theater in Marion.
Construction is underway for what the owners say will be a state of the art multi-purpose drive in theater on the parking lot of the former Illinois Star Centre Mall.
“Basically, the main entrance, center court, will be the location of our 36-foot tall, 60-foot long LED screen,” said Rodney Cabaness, partner Marion Center Project.
The SMD LED screen features state of the art technology, that will allow viewing at all hours of the day. Unlike a traditional drive in theaters which only allow viewing at night.
“We are currently working on a “tv guide” for the month of October with plans to include movies on the weekends and Sunday matinees as well as pay per events like UFC fights and boxing matches,” said Rich Miller, Theater Coordinator.
A portion of the mall parking lot will be designated for movie viewing and lines will be painted in an amphitheater arrangement allowing for more than 200 cars to be socially distant while maintaining optimal viewing of the screen that will be approximately 30’ above the ground.
A website and social media pages will be announced in the coming days where you can find more information.
