HARRISBURG, Ill. (WSIL) -- An Illinois Senator's outreach organization celebrates it's two year anniversary. Senator Dale Fowler created the program through his foundation when he noticed a need for it in his community.
On Tuesday, guests drove up to the Heaven's Kitchen's front doors and volunteers handed out containers in plastic bags filled with hot, home cooked meals. Participants were also offered a dessert and dairy items.
"We're filling a void, when people come in, they bring their children. You can see the smile on their faces and the correspondences we get back. Thanking us for this meal, about how great it was, about how much they really needed it for their family," said Senator Fowler.
Volunteers prepared enough food for 300 people.
Heaven's Kitchen provides a weekly meal at no charge from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Harrisburg First Presbyterian Church annex.
