MARION (WSIL) -- More people can get tested for COVID-19, thanks to expanded operations at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
The hospital has added a drive through collection site and purchased new lab equipment.
The new equipment cuts down the turnaround time for test results and matches the equipment used at the state level. It can process up to 900 tests per day.
Hospital leaders say it gives the staff a chance to better care for the community.
"It really gives us the opportunity to test our community to be able to track, give people the opportunity to get back to work, back to school, in an efficient manner," said Lab Administrator Charity Stucker.
The drive-thru site is call ahead and allows the facility to test large numbers of people, efficiently and safely.
