METROPOLIS (WSIL) -- A group of firefighters will join forces Saturday to help make their city a more beautiful place.

After complaining about garbage around the on and off ramps for the city of Metropolis, local firefighters decided they would clean it up with help from the Boy Scouts and volunteers.

The Fire Department Union was planning on doing a cleanup, but complaints on a community Facebook page accelerated the decision.

"It may not be the people here that are doing it, but there's three types of people in this world. Those that make things happen, those that watch things happen, and those that wondered what happened. We're gonna make things happen," said Metropolis Fire Dept. Union President Bobby Williams.

Volunteers willing to help can meet at the Super City Restaurant at 7 a.m. Saturday morning.

Make sure to bring gloves and a safety vest or bright yellow shirt or sweatshirt.
