METROPOLIS (WSIL) -- Massac County along with all of the high school baseball programs in the state of Illinois, didn't get to play a season during the 2019-20 school year.
The Patriots only held 8 practices during the spring, so they were eager to compete this fall. The IHSA contact days allowed Massac County to hold practices. The Patriots took things a step further by holding an intrasquad World Series.
Head Coach Patrick Clark said his team had good practices and workouts this fall.
"We've been able to get some swings in and see what some kids can do and on a day like today we take advantage of it and just let them play baseball which is what they enjoy and I'm getting a lot out of it too," Clark said. "I told the guys my word so far for the fall, I'm very encouraged about what we have. We've got some high quality guys, some upper classmen, our seniors are some of the hardest working kids we've had in quite some time and we bring in an incredibly talented freshman group that I think pushes a lot of these sophomores and juniors and ultimately I think it is going to provide us some depth for the season and I am really excited and encouraged to see what we can put on the field come April and May.
