(WSIL) -- The organizers of the Southern Illinois Made Expo have launched another initiative to further their efforts to boost support of local businesses.
During a virtual news conference Monday morning, Senator Dale Fowler (R-Harrisburg) and members of Southern Illinois chambers announced the "Shop, Eat, Play Safely" initiative.
It's a video series highlighting local southern Illinois products and shops and how consumers can support those businesses.
Monday's expo featured Carbondale's Com-Pac International and Marion's Crown Brew Coffee Company.
"In a time where small businesses are struggling now more than ever and there's such a need for the community to rile together and support locally and lot of people don't know the importance of that," said Crown Brew Coffee Company owner Jared Gravatt.
Studies show for every dollar spent at a locally owned business, 67 cents stays in the local community.
Senator Fowler says more businesses will be showcased over the next six months.
