Person hit, killed by train in Franklin County

ZEIGLER (WSIL) -- One person is dead after being hit by a train west of Zeigler Saturday morning.

It happened on the train tracks on Route 149 east of River Road, according to Franklin County sheriff David Bartoni. Calls first came in around 12:19 a.m. about a train hitting a pedestrian.

Investigators found the victim dead on arrival, Bartoni said. The victim's family has not been notified. The county coroner's office and sheriff's office is handling the investigation.

Multiple departments responded, including police from Christopher, Royalton and Zeigler. Zeigler Fire Department and railroad police also assisted.
