Illinois sees highest single-day COVID-19-related deaths reported with 238

(WEEK) -- Illinois health officials on Wednesday are announcing the largest single-day COVID-19-related deaths reported, but they say some of the reporting was delayed due to the holiday weekend.

The Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting 238 new deaths, bringing the state's total to 12,639. The previous single-day record was on May 13 when 191 deaths.

An additional 9,757 cases were also reported, bringing the statewide total to 748,603.

The seven-day test positivity rate through Tuesday rose to 12.5%.

The Region 5 positivity rate rose slightly to 12.5%.

As of Tuesday night, 5,764 individuals in the state were reported to be hospitalized with COVID-19, with 1,190 of those in the ICU and 714 on ventilators.

Labs in the last 24 hours reported 85,507 tests for the virus for a total of 10,699,586.
