Local store fights through ongoing appliance shortage

CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- Since opening the Carbondale location in August, Appliance Wizard has stayed busy.

This is despite a appliance shortage that similar companies were working through since last fall.

Carbondale store manager Carley Orlovich says some of the main manufacturers hit include General Electric and Whirlpool. Orlovich cites both companies website inconsistencies as a big setback.

"Whenever we look up certain models it'll tell us that they're coming in but as the dates comes, they push it back even further," Orlovich said.

Whirlpool freezers, Orlovich says, are on backorder. Some freezer orders won't arrive until late January 2022. One way the store is keeping stock is by working with independent dealers Dolittle and Crosley.

"It's affecting all manufacturers... but our independent dealers have worked very diligently to get different products, different models and sub-models in," Orlovich said.

But despite the delays, business is still strong. Orlovich says they met their goal last quarter, and are off to a good start this quarter. With tax season approaching, they expect to get busier.

"Everybody has to have appliances no matter what. We got to have that washer-dryer, that range to cook our food for our family we just got to have it," Orlovich said.

Appliance Wizard has two locations, including its original location in Marion.
