Local Police Departments introduce new K9’s

MT. VERNON (WSIL) -- The Mt. Vernon and Herrin Police Departments are introducing their new police dogs.

Mt. Vernon introduced K9 Bane and his new handler, Officer Shylah Kunick.

Bane is a 13 month old male Dutch Shepherd and was selected from a group of dogs at Alabama Canine kennels.

Bane and Officer Kunick will be attending a ten week, Basic K9 Academy at the Illinois State Police Academy.

Once certified in narcotics detection and criminal apprehension work, they will begin patrol work in Mt Vernon.

Herrin Police introduced K9 Officer Kajo.

Kajo will be handled by K9 handler Taylor Wicks.
