Body found at Marion Wastewater Treatment Facility identified

MARION (WSIL) -- The body of a man found dead at the Marion Wastewater Treatment Facility Sunday has been identified.

The City of Marion says around 7 a.m. a city employee went missing at the Wastewater Treatment facility.

Emergency crews were dispatched and around 10 a.m. crews located a body in one of the treated water ponds and recovered the remains of the suspected missing employee.

The missing employee was identified as Chief Wastewater Plant Operator David Williams.

The Illinois State Police and the Williamson County Coroner’s office are
handling the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Williams’ death.

The City of Marion would like to thank all rescue teams that participated in the search and recovery efforts, and especially Marion Fire Department for their professionalism. David was more than just a dedicated employee, and his legacy will continue to be honored through the brotherhood and sisterhood of his co-workers and the enormous impact he had on his community through his Second Baptist Church family. David was the ultimate example of a family man. He dedicated his life to caring for his family, his work family, and building a legacy that will never be forgotten. The City of Marion mourns his tragic loss alongside his family and his co workers.
