Two people killed in truck vs train accident

UPDATE: 4:00 p.m.

Illinois State Police say two people were killed when a truck was hit by a train around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

ISP says a 76-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman were in a truck turning onto a McIntosh Lane, a private drive just south of Ullin, from U.S. 51 in Pulaski County. The man pulled onto a rail crossing directly in the path of a northbound train.

The train struck the truck and pushed it about 1/2 of a mile before coming to a stop.

The driver and passenger were both pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities are being withheld pending family notification.

This crash is still under investigation and no further information is available at this time.

(WSIL) -- Illinois State Police District 22 troopers are responding to a possible car vs train accident in Pulaski County.

ISP says Troopers are enroute to U.S. 51, near Rife Road, south of Ullin.

ISP says there is reports of injuries related to the crash.
