ZEIGLER (WSIL) -- For a long time the chants were let them play.
Covid-19 kept our local athletes on the sidelines for a long time.
Games are back but now so many of them have to be crammed into one night in order to complete a month long basketball season.
That puts a lot of pressure on getting enough officials.
The need for referees created a historic moment.
A brother sister combination were part of the crew for the Zeigler-Royalton Hamilton County junior high game.
It was Deidra Dollins first night ever officiating and she got to do it with her brother, how cool is that.
And as soon as her game was done, this grandma went next door to go watch her grandson Gannon play for the Zeigler Royalton Varsity team.
"I have been doing this since 1979 and I’m still not very good at it, but it’s going to be exciting," Denny Butler said. "And I’ve never heard of, through all the guys I’ve been around, there have been several that have called with their brother or uncle but I don’t think I’ve ever heard one call with a sister brother and sister two sisters."
"Well it’s kind of exciting," Deidre Dollins said. "I’ve watched him do it For many years and I’ve watched basketball all my life and I’ve always wanted to do it. I thought well could be a good opportunity since a lot of officials are not calling due to covid problems so I thought oh I’ll just try myself."
