CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- Tuesday night's election for a race in Carbondale resulted to two incumbents, Carolin Harvey and Jeff Doherty, keeping their seats for city council.
There's a new member, too: Ginger Rye Sanders.
Rye Sanders is well known for her community service and founding the Women For Change organization.
She tells News 3, her campaign had some challenges but she learned to have patience from her experience.
She says she's thankful and humbled to be serving on the council and one of her missions is to have more diversity in jobs throughout the city.
"We need to do better of including all people…whether whatever ethnic group they come from, whatever religion, because I believe everyone is important and bring something to the table that we can gleam from and learn from," she said.
Rye Sanders says she's hosting a community celebration in the coming weeks.
