BENTON (WSIL) -- A 10-year-old Franklin County boy has shown his appreciation for healthcare workers, first responders, and veterans in this edition of Unsung Hero.
Skylar Martin of Benton plans to sell cool drinks at his lemonade stand every weekend during the summer, but veterans, medical field workers, police, and fire, are invited to get a free drink.
"Come get your free lemonade. It tastes really good," said Skylar.
Because these groups serve others, Skylar said he wanted to make sure he served them. He offered assorted flavors like pink lemonade, strawberry watermelon, and even sugar-free, along with sports drinks and water. He also adds fruit. You can get a large cup with ice for $1.00 or a little cup for $0.50. The water will cost you a buck, and the sports drinks are $1.50 and $0.75. With the money he has made, he's bought supplies with, but there are bigger goals with the money he hopes to raise.
"I'm going to buy me a new bike because mine is all torn up. Then after I buy me a bike, I'm going to buy me a phone," explained Skylar.
Due to his thoughtfulness, the Benton Fire Department made a post about Skylar on Facebook that said, "A big thank you to Skylar Martin for the delicious lemonade! If you're out and about, stop by and give him a visit!"
Skylar will be selling and giving free lemonade on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays throughout the summer from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 1106 Fairland Street in Benton, Illinois.
