CHICAGO (WREX) — Illinois is fully reopened as of Friday and the governor says the state is back.

“We’ve made it to a day we’ve all been waiting for… Illinois is back,” the governor said in a Twitter post.

Pritzker credits the state’s ability to move to Phase 5 and fully reopen due to being able to follow mitigation and social distancing guidelines, the work of the health responders on the front line and the millions of people who have been vaccinated.

“We got through this by going all in for Illinois and we’re going to keep going all in as our economy recovers, rebuilding our communities and entering this new chapter in our history as the most resilient state in the nation,” the governor said in a video.

It’s been 447 days since the state was considered to be fully reopened.

The governor says moving into Phase 5 “will mean businesses, large-scale events, conventions, amusement parks, and seated-spectator venues, among others, will be able to operate at full capacity for the first time since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
