CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- NCAA student athletes take a step closer to profiting from their name image and likeness.

On Tuesday, Governor Pritzker signed a bill that allows the student athletes to sign endorsement deals.

We caught up with SIU athletic Director Liz Jarnigan to get her reaction to the new bill.

Jarginan says the university will not change from how they treat student athletes or how they think about them philosophically.

"The financial war will be more on the sponsorship side and less about our institution coming up with the money when it comes to name, image and likeness situation," Jarnigan said. "I think it's going to be difficult to compete when you are in different parts of the country where there may be different entities in the community that might be willing to create some sponsorship directly with the student athletes so it'll be a different flavor for us in Carbondale than it is in Champaign than it is for institutions located in Chicago."
